Gov't warns of terrorist threat from watches
Somehow we doubt this is the kind of endorsement Casio wants, but apparently the folks at al-Qaeda have taken a liking to the company's watches, particularly those with a built-in altimeter. According to an advisory from the Department of Homeland Security, Casios have been used by al-Qaeda as timers for explosives, and are favored for their "worldwide availability and inexpensive price." Homeland Security has also warned that terrorists might have a fondness for watches with built-in cigarette lighters, which are available for under $10. Though both lighter-watches and Casios are currently allowed on planes, airport screeners have been advised to be on the lookout for them. Which means you'd better get ready to take off your watch right after you hand over your shoes.
