Gaming press need to grow up?
Matt Sakey must have a thick hide. At least, he'd better if he's going to survive the onslaught he's about to face.
Sakey is a game columnist who has written a lethally true line — "It's time for the gaming press to grow up a little bit. Stop acting like the Nintendo Fun Club and start taking seriously the discipline of game development."
He goes on to say that blogs are picking up some of the slack that the mainstream press should be handling. For the most part, this is true. Many of the gaming blogs are delving into the "whys" of game development, instead of the "hows and whens." Not only are the blogs daring to dig, they're doing a really good job of it.
The mainstream press doesn't have to heed Sakey's advice. After all, there are blogs to fill the void. But they might want to listen, just a little.
