The Tecra A3, the Tecra A4, and the Satellite M45, Toshiba's new Sonoma laptops
They dropped a couple of these in Japan the other day,
but Toshiba just announced three new Sonoma-powered laptops for domestic consumption, the Tecra A3, the Tecra A4, and the Satellite M45 (we're tired of explaining how Sonoma is/was the codename for Intel's next-generation Centrino chipset, if you want more background on it, click
here):
-
The Tecra A3 clocks in at under $1,100, which is cheap for these sorts of things, but that also means that the
rest of the specs are a little on the skimpy side: 1.6GHz Pentium M processor, 15-inch XGA resolution LCD screen,
CD-RW/DVD-ROM combination drive, 40GB hard drive, and 256MB of RAM (expandable up to 2GB), and Intel's Graphics
Media Accelerator 900. The Tecra A4 has almost the same specs, replacing the regular 15-inch screen with a
15.4-inch widescreen LCD. -
The Satellite M45 (pictured at right) gets us into properly mid-range Sonoma territory, and will sport a 1.6GHz
or 1.73GHz Pentium M processor, integrated 802.11b/g, 15.4-inch widescreen LCD, 512MB of RAM (expandable up to
2GB), a DVD SuperMulti drive, 80GB or 100GB hard drive, and Intel's Graphics Media Accelerator 900.
