Screwed by Audacity?

Have you ever seen Audacity fail to save your audio recording? This is exactly what Evil Genius Chronicles
reports – Audacity claims to have saved his file, but unfortunately, said file doesn't actually exist. Poof – a substantial amount of work down the drain.

Has anyone else seen this behavior? What audio recording software are you using, and would you care to recommend it?
