Great players make for bad critics

Alas, not everyone can be as talented as the Joystiq staff
<wink>, so while it may seem natural for elite gamers to turn to reviewing, for the most part, the uber-skilled are often too self-centered to provide a valuable critique.  The Adrenaline Vault recently took a stab at the topic, calling for a "global test" to screen wannabe reviewers.  It's a long, thoughtful article that makes a number of valid points.
