Ion Storm is in the history books

As we reported earlier, Ion Storm has, indeed, shut down. The makers of the Deus Ex and Thief series lost their lead man, Warren Spector, in November, 2004. The departure left little doubt that some serious shakeups would follow. A full closure is sad news, though. Eidos claims the consolidation of talent into Crystal Dynamics, in San Francisco, will help them focus on next generation development.

Does that mean next-gen development will require fewer people in a central office? Wiser minds have crunched the numbers, but it sounds like simple cost cutting to me.
