New York high school students getting jumped for their iPods?

Remember those news stories from about a year ago about
muggers in Britain targeting iPod owners because of their signature white headphones? The stories turned out to be fake (though the part about an Apple spokesperson responding that their customers would "rather be robbed" than use headphones that weren't cool seemed scarily plausible), but now the New York Post (yeah, we know, it's the Post) is reporting that there has been nearly a
"doubling of student iPod robberies on the subways in recent months," with transit police saying that it's those white iPod headphones that are tipping off thieves to who on the subway is carrying some precious cargo.
