Stephen Smith spills the beans on new Pentiums
So it looks like The Inq had a bull session with Stephen Smith (VP of Desktop Platform Ops over at Intel) at the Intel Developer Forum, and they came out with some surprising bits for us. For starters, Pentium 4s will now no longer be known as such, but should be referred to only as Pentium Ds—a move that makes a lot of sense, given their decision to shift away from the MHz war and into the world of processor classes. Their new Pentium D series will have 65nm versions abound—more specifically, their forthcoming 840 series (aka Pentium Extreme Edition) will include Hyperthreading, whereas their new 800 series will not. We have a feeling this'll all make a lot more sense once the dust settles.
