TiVo registers five new patents

TiVo has been granted five new patents from the U.S. government, along with three from the Chinese and Japanese governments, bringing the company's total patent portfolio to 70, with over 100 still pending with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The patents are most valuable to TiVo in its ongoing lawsuit against Echostar for violating their patent for a "multimedia time warping system" (which hardly ever gets talked about), but otherwise it doesn't sound like their patents have done much to stop their competitors from sneaking up on them in the DVR space.
