Pocketnow reviews the Socket Mobile Power Pack
Let's face it: the biggest downside of carrying around a ton of gadgets (and if you're reading this, we assume you carry around at least a few) is having to charge all those batteries — especially the proprietary ones in PDAs,
cellphones and audio players. So, the idea of a universal portable power supply, like the Socket Mobile Power Pack,
definitely has its appeal. The 11-ounce unit is about the size of a large PDA and can juice up just about any device that can be charged via USB (which includes most mobile phones, PDAs and audio players). Pocketnow took a close look at the charger, and found it to be fairly useful, despite what they deemed as a steep price ($149 list, $100 street). Our take, without having actually seen one, is that if you spend a lot of time in your car or at a desk, you can probably replicate the functionality with appropriate adaptors, without having to carry around yet another gadget. On the other hand, if you spend a lot of time traveling and don't want to deal with multiple adaptors, this thing could save you some grief (though if you travel with a laptop and a small USB hub, you can probably accomplish almost the same thing).
