Double-barrelled EV-DO gets ya 3.2Mbps
Apparently EV-DO Coverage (disclaimer: they are currently an advertiser) have figured out a way to hack a crazy fast 3.2Mbps down/256Kbps up connection out of EV-DO. The trick? Using two EV-DO laptop cards in tandem (which means you need to have a laptop with dual PCMCIA slots) and then optimizing the hell out of them. You also have to saw the antenna off of one of the laptop cards, and we also presume it means sucking up and paying for two of Verizon's $80 a month BroadbandAccess accounts, too. Being able to get 3.2Mbps per second on your laptop no matter where you are sounds completely fresh, but you have to really, really, really want this: in addition to any monthly carrier fees, EV-DO
Coverage is asking $1,482 a pop—and oh yeah, they'll need to borrow your lappy for a few days to get everything set up.
