TiVo continues losing money
Thomas Hawk already reported back some of the good news, like that TiVo is working on some sort of
"TiVo-branded experience for the PC", but there's plenty of bad news buried in TiVo's latest quarterly earnings report, too. Yeah, it's excellent that they've broken 3 million subscribers and increased revenue and cash flow, but they also managed to lose even more money than they did over the same period the year before ($33.7 million vs. $12.4 million), mainly because of an aggressive rebate program that hurt profit margins. All told, they lost $80 million in their last fiscal year (which ended January 31st, 2005). We get that they're trying to do whatever it takes to add new subscribers, and they're still claiming that they're on track to reach profitability by the fourth quarter, but until then the
TiVo Deathwatch continues.
