Reggie Fils-Aime talks up Revolution, DS, GameCube, E3 '05
Presumably armed with a chair and whip, 1UP.com persuaded Reggie Fils-Aime to stop kicking ass and taking names long enough to answer a few questions concerning Nintendo's past and future hardware strategies. Reggie deals with a broad spectrum of topics, including how Nintendo plans to respond to the next Xbox, their plans on combating Sony's PSP, the dearth of software available for the DS, the kinds of consumers Nintendo hopes to appeal to, and how Reggie himself would have marketed the Gamecube differently. Though perhaps the most intriguing tidbits are what Reggie spills on the Nintendo Revolution. Reggie assures us that the Revolution's launch lineup will feature at least one of Nintendo's major franchises, and that they're hard at work on developing new franchises for the next generation. However, the console itself, which is still early in the development phase, will not be on the floor at this year's E3,
though it will constitute a major presence. Reggie states that "what we will be doing at E3 this year is sharing our vision for Revolution," and that it may very well be available for a few select people to see. Quelching our deepest fears, Reggie also confirms that the Revolution will be "a very sexy device." To which I reply: only if it comes packaged with DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball 2, my friend. Touching is good.
NOTE: Yes, the interview's already a few days old. I had to sit on this one for a while on account of my ISP decided to spontaneously combust. Sorry for the delay.
