New to Mac / Switcher Tips: Put Your Hard Drive in the Dock

The Dock can be a fickle and problematic little app that freezes from time to time. However, it can also be a handy and quick way to navigate the contents of your Mac.  Simply drag your hard drive(s) or any regularly used folder to the Dock.  Now, any time you want to go to a specific file on your hard drive, all you have to do is click and hold the hard drive icon in the Dock.  A menu will pop up (as in the picture to the right) containing all the folders in the root level of the hard drive.  You can navigate into any of these folders to open up another menu listing their contents. I have my hard drive, my Applications folder, my Home folder, and a network drive that I
regularly connect to, sitting in the Dock for easy navigation.

Note: The Dock will only accept hard drives / folders to the right or below the dividing line (depending upon your Dock's orientation), as the left side / upper portion of the Dock is reserved for Applications.  So, any files, folders, or drives should be placed closer to the Trash can on the Dock.
