Main Barrier to Macs in Corporate IT: Support
CTO Chad Dickerson writes about the problems of integrating Macs into a largely Windows-based work environment in his recent InfoWorld Article, "Want a Mac? You're on Your Own." Although he himself is a Mac user, he notes, "Regardless of the platform, running your own computer in a corporate environment without support is time-consuming. When you bring a Mac into the corporate environment, you have to factor in software overhead such as VPN clients, Lotus Notes, and backup clients." To a certain degree,
this is the achilles heel in any sort of possible migration in the business world from PC to Mac. There are too many PC only products that companies have invested in and too many IT people who are only really trained in PC.
