SpotCell extends indoor cellphone coverage

We've thought of ditching our landline service and going cellphone-only more than once, only to be brought back to reality by one thing: spotty coverage. After all, what good is a phone if you have to stand next to the living room window with your arm raised over your head at a 90-degree angle just to use it? The folks at Spotwave know a market when they see one, and they've got a solution: the SpotCell line of extenders, which claim to boost signal strength throughout homes and offices of up to 80,000 square feet. There are, of course, a couple of downsides. The setups are carrier-specific (they're compatible with most North American carriers), so if you and your cohabitants are on different carriers, you'll need more than one of these. And the cheapest model will set you back about $900. For that price, you may be better off standing by the window — or just switching to
