PSP to Mac Gear in Danger
I was beginning to put together a three part posting session on PSP to Mac Gear, starting with ffmpegX, when on a whim, I decided to check out the regular ffmpeg site on SourceForge.
Bad news: iPSP, PSPware, and ffmpegX, as well as a lot of other cool Mac capable software, like VLC and Mplayer are all in jeapordy. All these programs use ffmpeg for their video crunching, and ffmpeg is in trouble due to recent changes in patent laws over in Europe. What can we do about it? Not much if you are non-European, but here's the advice on ffmpeg's site: "Contact your local EU representatives and educate them why software patents are bad and why they
must attend that parliament session to vote against them. For in-depth information and starting points to get active visit software patent page of the FFII (Foundation for a Free Information Infrastructure) and NoSoftwarePatents.com."
