News.com: Budget laptops getting lighter

Used to be, when it came to laptops, there was a clear inverse relationship between price and weight: pay less, get a heavier computer. However, as smaller components drop in price, models that won't break either your bank or your back are starting to crop up, and News.com has a good rundown of some of the offerings. None of these will threaten ultralights like the Vaio T150, and all skimp in other places, such as the OS, RAM and WiFi. Winbook's 4.6-pound, $699 LX 300, for example, comes with Linux instead of Windows (some, of course, would argue that this is a plus), a mere 128MB of RAM, and no WiFi. But the price does include a CD-burner. Other low-end lightweights include Dell's 6.3-pound, $749 Inspiron 1200.
