Researchers want gesture-controlled gadgets
This whole using-our-hands- to-control-our-gadgets thing has been working out pretty well for us so far, but researchers at the University of Glasgow are working on a way to control gadgets using
gestures and body movements—like if you wanted to skip songs on your iPod, you would just nod your head (metalheads might need to learn how to curtail their headbanging). It's pretty easy to guess which gestures you would use when you want to delete a song, but does anyone really want to deal with something like this? Do we even need to point out the obvious flaws, like how would your MP3 player distinguish between an everyday gesture and one that's meant to control the player? (How would it know that you're just nodding your head in agreement with someone and not that you want to keep advancing to the next song over and over again?) Maybe we're missing some critical part of what they're trying to get at (the BBC article isn't exactly heavy on the details), and we're all for "innovation," but c'mon dude, is pressing a button on a remote really killing you?
