Cable companies to push cellphones with WiFi?
Sprint CEO Gary Forsee is predicting that next year it's going to be the cable companies, and not the wireless carriers themselves, that will be the first to really get behind
cellphones with built-in WiFi that can make super cheap wireless VoIP calls when you're at home (and within range of your wireless access point) and then automatically roam onto the wider cellular network when you're anywhere else. More or less makes sense for the cable companies, since it's just one more way they can convince people to sign up for giant packages that bundle together TV, Internet, VoIP, and wireless service, and
Time Warner is already offering repackaged Sprint cellular service to some subscribers in Kansas City, Missouri. Not to be left out of the action, Comcast has confirmed they're in discussions with several wireless carriers about offering some sort of cellphone service of their own.
