BT Bluephone launch imminent?
We've been waiting for BT to roll out their converged
Bluephone since last year, and it looks like a launch will happen in the near near future. BT CEO Ben Verwaayen quipped, "we said we'd launch it in spring. Look around,
spring is in the air today." We'd prefer a little less poetic mystery in favor of some cold hard dates, but hey, what are you gonna do. Project Bluephone aims to create a mobile handset that switches between acting as a cordless phone while at home (via Bluetooth) and as a GSM cellular handset when out and about. Before they've even gotten the thing out the door, they're apparently beginning development of version two, which will support WiFi for cordless home action in addition to Bluetooth. BT is also self-proclaimedly bosom buddies with WiMax, all of which is well and good, but we're not chucking our cells out the door just yet considering we haven't even yet caught a glimpse of version 1.0.
