Adobe Engulfs Macromedia: Take 2

I realize that Laurie already posted about this yesterday, but since she is so fond of reposting other people's posts
(turn about = fair play and all), I thought I'd weigh in with my two cents on the issue.  This also gives me the opportunity to point to a wonderful post by Jason Kottke, who has gathered all the various different takes on the recent buyout of Macromedia by Adobe into one detailed roundup post.

All these perspectives are interesting, but I wonder how much influence Apple's recent movements in the pro-video / graphics software arena have had on this market. With Adobe eating up Macromedia, I think it leaves room for Apple to come out with professional variants of Pages and iPhoto for the desktop publishing and photo-editing world, as they came out with Final Cut Pro in the video world.

What do you think? Could we see MacPaint resurrected as a new professional grade, Apple-branded illustration program?
