MobileSOS turns your cellphone into a personal alarm
The Inquirer reports on a new service in Britain called MobileSOS that will turn your cellphone into a personal alarm system. Instead of using GPS, MobileSOS uses existing handset location-based technologies in Britain, making it compatible with virtually any cellphone. To use the service, users simply program MobileSOS's call centre number into their phone's speed dial. They can also choose from three different types of calls: one for help, one to say you're O.K., or one that will automatically call in after a certain amount of time has elapsed. The service is available now (apparently just in Britain) for £24 per year.
