TecNet 701-G flash video player reviewed
Sure, you can do video on portable players actually designed for that purpose like the Archos
Gmini 400, the
Creative Zen PMC or any of a
zillion other hard drive-based units. But if you're looking for something that's pretty much pointless other than as a "see, it really can be done"
device, why not opt for one of the increasingly common flash-based video players? If you need any convincing that this is a product category in search of a purpose, check out dapreview's rundown on the TecNet 701-G, a 1.8-inch display,
1GB flash-based player that reviewer Robert Sinke dings for flaws ranging from poor firmware to a USB 1.1 connection to poor build quality. Okay; Rob is willing to give the TecNet points for trying, and we can see some limited value to putting video into this form factor (like using it to show off that two-minute clip of your kid's first steps). But, really, if you want to watch anything longer than a few minutes without a) using up all your storage space, and b) going blind, this just isn't gonna cut it.
