Court throws out Computer Leasco's patent suit against NTP (aka RIM's archnemesis)
Well, if anyone was holding their breath that the patent infringement lawsuit levied against NTP might have done anything at all to exonerate Research In Motion from
NTP's lawsuit against them — you can officially let it out. A U.S. District Court threw out the case against NTP, saying that Michigan-based wireless equipment company Computer Leasco failed to "state a claim upon which relief could be granted." For those just tuning in,
NTP sued RIM last year for patent violation, and Computer Leasco turned around and sued NTP, saying they were the true holders of those same patents.
Last month RIM opted to settle in the suit instead of going the knockdown, drag-out, lawyer feeding frenzy route. It's probably not terribly much consolation to them to know that Computer Leasco's lawsuit wouldn't have helped them one bit.
