Nikon and Adobe in talks to resolve RAW encryption issue
So there's word of at least a little bit of progress in the whole
Nikon RAW file format encryption kerfuffle. If you're just tuning in now, Adobe's Thomas Knoll (original co-author of Photoshop) kicked off the controversy on an Adobe bulletin board, posting that Nikon had decided to start encrypting the white balance data in its RAW files in the D2X and D2H cameras. Nikon responded with a retort that didn't really appease anyone, because although they technically
offer an SDK to software developers, it doesn't really give them much flexibility to add extra controls. Perhaps in response to the outcry from the photographer community, it now appears that Adobe and Nikon are in talks to resolve the issue. We can only hope this will mean good things for those who shoot in the RAW.
