PhoneScoop's cheat sheet on inflight cellphone use

In case you thought the debate over using
cellphones on planes
had died down, PhoneScoop has a detailed rundown of the issues raised by inflight calling, including results of a recent survey by the Association of Flight Attendants and the National Consumers League, which found that 67% want to keep the phones off of planes and 80% believe that calls could be at least annoying and at most dangerous (we assume the other 20% responded to the survey by shouting their answers into their cellphones while attending the opera). The article also points out that many airlines now allow you to pull out your phone and use it offline if you can prove it's not transmitting — a potential boon to smartphone users who want to get work done on the flight (not to mention anyone who can game the system by getting their phone to display a "transmitter off" icon while they're really connected).
