Follow-up on Rush-gate

Earlier this month I had some fun at Rush Limbaugh's expense. Rush is a vocal Mac guy (with the emphasis on vocal) and he devoted some time on his radio show to a problem he was having with the .Mac syncing in Tiger, which he'd just installed. I said that the "bug" he kept referring to wasn't really a bug and implied that perhaps he was exaggerating. Rush's tech support guy jumped to Rush's defense in the comments and then Rush himself chimed in. I invited Rush to email me directly so I could get a better understanding of the problem he encountered and I promised that if he had information that I thought might help someone else, I would post it.

Rush and I did exchange a few emails and he gave me permission to share. The problem he was that his address book was not syncing automatically between his computer and .Mac using .Mac Sync under Tiger Apple's .Mac support department did confirm that they had received a small number of reports of the same problem and they had identified a server-side cause, which has since been resolved. In the interest of fairness, Rush's workaround appears after the jump, just in case any of you run into the same thing.

Log in to .Mac
Open Address Book
Open Preferences
Click Save (do NOT de-select "Turn on .Mac syncing.....)
Log out of .Mac
Open .Mac pane on computer Sys Prefs
Run a sync
Log in to .Mac
Open Address Book
Voila!! updated data appears and the time of login is displayed as the Last Sync.

Thanks to Rush for being a good sport.
