Toshiba's RC-XS54 networked DVD recorder with 250GB of storage

Toshiba introduced their first networked DVD recorder with 250GB of storage earlier today. The RD-XS54 comes with a DVD-RAM/DVD-R/DVD-RW drive, plenty of storage for recording TV shows (it uses the TV Guide On Screen as its programming guide), HDMI (with upconversion to 720p and 1080i), and an Ethernet port for hooking up to your home network. Too bad that unlike pretty much every other networked entertainment adapter out there, you can't actually use this thing to stream audio and video files that are stored on your PC. Instead they expect you to use that network connection you're paying extra for stuff like remotely scheduling recordings via email, receiving automatic software upgrades, streaming saved programming to (but not from) a PC, or for copying shows from one RD-XS54 to another (which only works if you've somehow purchased more than one for use at home). The RD-XS54 will set you back a mean $699.99 when it comes out in August.
