locket: a custom widget

Locket is a cool little widget that does one thing, and does it well. You tell Locket to be on the look out for one of your iChat contacts, and then it sits in Widget space and patiently waits for that person to sign on. The moment they do the locket springs open to reveal a picture (most likely of that person, but you can pick what you would like to show up) and you can chat with them by clicking on the Locket.

Locket isn't free though, it'll set you back anywhere from $10 to $15 to get it customized for you. There is a free demo version of the widget, which you can delve into yourself and customize (heck, Widgets are just little webpages anyway) but the developer offers no support for that (nor is there documentation).
