Quebec researchers develop better cameraphone lens

Researchers at Laval University in Quebec, Canada have developed a new cameraphone lens that they say will revolutionize photography. Instead of using glass or plastic, the new lens is made up of a thin sheet of LCD crystals coated with a light sensitive compound. The result is a lens thinner than a piece of paper that can zoom and focus with no moving parts, apparently taking "crystal-clear" photos. But it looks like the technology is still quite a ways from hitting the market; the researchers are now looking for partners to help them build a prototype and "overcome remaining technical hurdles."
