Cingular to delay HSDPA network rollout
So it was too good to be true. DoCoMo announced the delay of their HSDPA rollout a couple of weeks ago, and now the rumours are flying that Cingular will be delaying their rollout here in the States, as well. Lots of mumbo jumbo and hedging as to why the technology isn't ready for prime time — DoCoMo claimed there's not enough content ready to take advantage of the high speed network,
which is pretty much pure shinola. Cingular is saying they "have too much on their plate," what with merging their network in holy wedded bliss with AT&T Wireless's infrastructure. True, wedding planning is a timesuck, but some are floating the idea that the real holdup is a shortcoming in the rest of the infrastructure — i.e. not enough decent handsets in production and not enough services and applications being built to capitalize on the speed of HSDPA. Could be, could be. Regardless, the world can go back to spinning on its axis now that we know the U.S. won't be beating out our Japanese counterparts in advanced telecommunications deployment anytime soon.
