Toshiba Gigabeat reviewed by PC Magazine
We've been panting over Toshiba's Gigabeat
audio players ever since we first laid eyes on that 2.2 inch display and brushed metal finish. But PC Magazine's Bill Machrone has actually laid his ears on one (the 60GB MEG-F60S), and says the sound quality just doesn't live up to the looks — though he does say that with the EQ turned off, you get "delightful" audio. Machrone also faults Toshiba for requiring the unit's dock for music downloads; you can mount it as a hard drive via USB, but that won't let you load music. And Toshiba requires its own clunky software to transfer photos. Machrone points out that most of what doesn't work can be fixed via a firmware upgrade. Looks like we'll just have to wait. Until then, we'll have to continue to worship this one from afar.
