Big digital TVs are sucking the juice

Engadget has an interesting story about how our use of larger HDTV sets is coming more power. This would make sense for the traditional CRT-projection sets, which are electricity hogs, but this extra power consumption also comes from plasmas and LCD sets.

About 4 percent of residential power usage came from TV sets in 2004.

A recent study by the Natural Resources Defense Council says that in four years our TV sets will consume 50% more power annually than they do today. So I guess when you budget money for your new HDTV set, you better make sure you do the same for your monthly electricity bill.
