XM's NavTraffic service reviewed
XM and Sirius have been hyping their NAVTEQ-powered realtime traffic services, which sound like great products, but really need to be road-tested. The AP's Frank Bajak rose to the challenge, installing a Pioneer AVIC-N2 GPS unit with XM tuner, and put XM's NavTraffic service to the test on the streets of New York City. And found himself immediately stuck in a bumper-to-bumper jam near Yankee Stadium,
which NavTraffic had failed to anticipate. He also dinged the GPS system for providing circuitous routes. Pioneer told him that the quality of traffic data varies by city, and Bajak opined that he probably would have been better off just listening to his local news station for chopper reports. We're with you Frank — as long as you keep us clear of those cross-Bronx jams.
