Companies set to offer cheaper MIMO-based WiFi gear
Several companies using Airgo's new MIMO
(multiple-in-multiple-out) technology for their WiFi gear are set to release lower-cost routers next month, including some under $100US, thanks to Airgo itself introducing some cheaper chipsets. In addition to a lower-cost version of the True MIMO chipset currently in use, Airgo also unveiled two new chipsets: True G and True AG. True G
apparently isn't as powerful as True MIMO, but will still provide some advantage over standard WiFi. It'll also be quite a bit cheaper, with routers costing between $69 and $99 and client PC Cards costing between $59 and $89.
True AG-based gear will work with both 802.11a and 802.11g and will supposedly only cost a bit more than True G-based products.
