Aircraft Debris Protector: protector of humans not debris
Making us all feel like unaccomplished yobs, Scots schoolboy Daryn Murray (12 years old, fancy dresser) has invented a runway debris detector which, if fully developed, could make air travel safer. At least that nasty bit on the tarmac,
dig? See, a remote controlled camera rolls along a small track at the side of the runway identifying potentially dangerous debris (as small as a "nut") and then warns pilots on approach (and presumably prior to takeoff) of any potential danger. Airport officials in Britain are already keen on the idea particularly after the French Concord crash in 2000 which was thought to have been caused by a wayward metal strip puncturing the aircraft's tire.
