Weekend wrap up: iTunes smart playlists
Earlier this week I was playing around in iTunes and started wondering about what great smart playlists our readers had created on their own Macs. I asked and you answered. Here are some highlights from that discussion.
Narco uses a smart playlist to quiz his pals during long road trips in the car. He writes, "[I] make a smart playlist with a key word in the song title, album or band name. So say the keyword I choose is "taste" and a few songs come on like "Taste of Honey" by The Bartlebees, or a song from the "A mind is a terrible thing to taste" album by Ministry. It's up to the people in my car to figure out what the keyword is just by listening to the song." Sounds like a fun way to torture a captive audience. More suggestions after the jump.
Bargs suggests, "Try this: Play count=2, last played is after 5/8/05, limit to 10 songs selected by random, with live updating checked. Gauranteed 10 sweet songs at random, and the best part is that as soon as one song is over, another song is added to the end of the playlist." Sweet.
Callum takes a practical approach with the playlist he calls "Boil That Egg," which is "...a smart playlist comprising of 7 [one] minute songs. 7 minutes to boil my perfect egg..." How very resourceful!
Finally, Shane has created a way to determine how often songs appear in shuffle mode. He writes, "I have 3 playlists that feed 1 main playlist:
first is one with all 5 star songs not played in the last week, second is all 4 star songs not played in the last month, third all 3 star songs not played in the last 6 weeks.
Each one of these usually winds up around 70-100 songs.
My playlist "Clever Shuffle" is a combination of all of those, anything added less than 3 months ago, plus anything I comment "Include" (so I can throw in stuff I haven't rated yet)
Anything rated 2 doesn't get played, anything rated 1 I uncheck or delete."
Good suggestions, all! Keep those ideas flowing, and thanks for taking the time to participate.
