Steve Jobs invited to join Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Over the past weekend, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended membership invitations to 112 artists and executives, including Apple and Pixar's own Steve Jobs. The Academy says they offered the prestigious invitation to individuals "...who have distinguished themselves in the field of theatrical motion pictures." Accepting the offer would make Steve a voting member of the Academy (as in, "I'd like to thank the Academy..."). Is it a conflict of interest to have the CEO of a motion picture studio act as a member of the Academy? I'm not sure, but I certainly think the offer is pretty cool, and speaks further to Apple's having cemented its place in Hollywood.

The only question is, how soon before Steve has the iOscar statue transformed into shiny, white plastic?
