BlackBerry Smart Card Reader tightens Bluetooth security
If you're a BlackBerry user, chances are you're doing some sort of businessy kind of business—and you might just happen to also work for a company (or government agency) who cares (more than) a bit about security. And not that we're saying Bluetooth security is bad or anything (so long as you don't keep your phone in discoverable mode, anyway), but it couldn't really hurt to peep RIM's new BlackBerry Smart Card Reader, intended to give AES-256 crypto compatible Bluetooth devices a fighting chance at not letting that wireless conversation get overheard by The Bad Guys, Inc. But the key question is, will this thing allow the gods in the ivory IT tower more control over who you can (and can't) talk to since system policies can be applied to the reader and device? Hey, we believe you when you say you've got a reason to call your company's competitor four or five times a week.
