IBM goes on post-Apple damage control

Far be it from us to call out IBM on being, oh, about
three and a half weeks late in doing some cursory damage control regarding the hit their PowerPC chip platform took after Apple did a little switching of their own. But all the same, IBM VP Rod Adkins came out to say they could totally have built the chips Apple needed to break 3GHz and make a PowerBook G5... but, uh, well, that's it really. What, they just didn't feel like doing it or something? It's not like Jobs really liked getting up in front of the world and admitting they were wrong about the PowerPC, and they lied about the platform's performance. IBM's not out of the picture yet, though, since they've got a couple years more of expected product revs before Apple's through with the process of dropping them—so if you're loyal to the platform,
you won't have to let go juuust yet.
