Go go gadget insurance!

If you're a gadget lover prone to expensive accidents with electronics, you might be curious to know about a new trend in the insurance market aimed towards covering your gear. Because most home insurance policies have deductibles from $500 to $1000 and up, impractical for covering the theft or damage of relatively cheap consumer electronics,
insurance companies are starting to offer special policies or riders that can be tacked on to your existing homeowner's insurance that will cover these smaller cost items. Prices are on the order of $5 per month for something like a cellphone or iPod, though prices will, of course, vary in that insurance voodoo kind of way. Just be careful if you're one of those klutzes that feels you could really benefit from these policies — read all the fine print, 'cuz this whole thing just reeks of opportunism.
