We can't wait until another couple years when
barebones
Media Center PCs will be as commonplace as regular barebones boxes—but for now they're still usually very expensive (and often fairly unattractive). $700 is still a little steep for any barebones box, but the Ricavision PLIX-SBC/EMC 2200 MCE PC
(we still can't figure out what the hell they're actually calling it) set-top does include a dual-layer DVD burner,
8-in-1 card reader, 7.1 channel surround, and the whole kit and caboodle of ins and outs. Roll your own hard drive,
processor, RAM, etc.
