Sprint launching EV-DO later this month
We won't dwell so much on the fact that they're lagging way behind their arch-rival Verizon, but Sprint confirmed today that they're going to finally start rolling out their new
EV-DO high speed wireless network later this month, with service initially available in 34 metropolitan areas. It'll be at least a few more months before they bust out their first EV-DO handset, but you will be able to access the network using a wireless laptop card (either the Sierra Wireless AirCard 580 or the Novatel Merlin S620). Ready for the big disappointment? You can forget about Sprint being even the slightest bit aggressive and sparking a wireless broadband price war, they're going to be charging eighty bucks a month for the service, which is exactly what Verizon charges for laptop EV-DO.
