Embedded Linux vs. Windows Embedded

The good folks at Linuxdevices.com obviously have way too much time on their hands — how else can you explain the Great Gadget Smack-Down, which aimed to find out once at for all which embedded OS reigns supreme? Well, we suppose someone had to do it, we're just glad it wasn't us. When the dust settled, they found that
Embedded Linux has a slight lead, with 313 devices compared to Windows Embedded's 290. But those numbers are sharply divided depending on the type of devices, with Linux way out in front in gateways,
servers, and access points, and Windows having a strong lead in handhelds and mobile devices. VoIP devices seem to be the closest area, with the two just about even.
