Majority gaming audience doesn't care about next-gen and online gaming?
This week has surely been the week of market research, as
yet
another annual report on the state of the game market is revealed. This time around the outlook is bleak for the next generation of consoles, as current sales figures aren't showing any kind of downturn in current-gen game sales. With an installed base of 84 million consoles, the research suggests that the average family won't feel like dropping around $300-400 on a new console for their kids. The research also says that the average console owner doesn't care about online features and online games will remain a niche genre until at least 2008. According to the report, the majority of gamers prefer to interact purely with the console as an
'escape' from daily life. The social interaction which comes with online play detracts from this feeling. I've barely scratched the surface of the article, so get yourself over to the link below and check it out.
