"Hearwear" exhibit highlights futuristic audio devices
If you're getting tired of the sleek-yet-boring look of most recent headsets (especially the Bluetooth models), head on over to the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, where there's an exhibit opening called "Hearwear," which aims to "show how fashionably designed 'hearwear' can be as desirable and accessible as 'eyewear', and will change the way people think about hearing." The exhibit includes futuristic hearing aids, prototype headsets designed to block out specific sounds and jewelry-style units that can be customized to go with your outfit or mood (like the Universal Hear-ring, pictured). Of course, they're missing the real goal: implants. We don't want our earwear to be as fashionable as eyewear. We want it to be as invisible as contact lenses, and we're ready to stick it in our ear to make that happen.
