LCD production may increase to meet demand

Raising LCD production is under consideration for Sharp, the world's largest manufacturer of LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display televisions. Currently, Sharp's Kameyama production facility is capable of producing 4.32 million LCD panels. A production increase would boost that number to 4.8 million panels.

Regardless of the decision to boost output at the primary plant, construction is already underway on a second plant at Kamayama. The second plant is expected to begin LCD  production in late 2006. In addition to boosting output by adding another plant, the second location will raise efficiencies by using larger plates of glass. It's unclear what the anticipated production boosts will do to LCD television pricing as of yet.
