Top 10 best-selling games of 2005 (so far)
It's the time of the year where all the companies are showing their numbers – profits, losses, this division did good but this division did bad, etc. We already reported on Sony's predicted
loss (which came true) and on Nintendo's less-than-stellar performance. But does any of that really matter? Not really; these companies will still be around long after this fiscal year (and many fiscal years to come, I suspect). So how about something at least somewhat entertaining? The NPD Group has posted the top 10 best-selling games of 2005, and coming out on top is Gran Turismo 4.
In fact, the list goes as follows: seven sequels, two games based on a movie (both Star Wars), and only one original contender: God of War, at number 6. Is this really the signal we want to send the big developers and publishers,
that we are fine with rehashed franchises? I'll admit, most video game sequels usually refine their gameplay and improve on the quality (unlike movie sequels), but whatever happened to promoting creativity?
But I digress. Profits aside, the year is halfway over, what have been your favorite games so far this year?
