U.K. startup e-San testing cellphone-based cystic fibrosis monitoring system

Next time you see someone blowing into a cellphone, don't automatically assume the person has a predilection for certain forms of phone-based entertainment. He could be a cystic fibrosis sufferer, relaying breathing test results to his doctor's PC. At least that's the plan developed by U.K.
medical tech startup E-San, which has already developed cellphone-based monitoring systems for diabetics and is working on tools for asthmatics as well. The CF-monitoring system combines a cellphone with a spirometer, a device that measures lung strength. Software on the doctor's end can analyze the data and determine whether or not the patient is at risk of a serious infection. The system is currently in clinical trials with 50 test subjects, in conjunction with service provider O2 and the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
